Water Bills - October 2024
November 05, 2024
We have received numerous phone calls concerning higher October water bills than expected and wanted to provide clarification about the majority of these higher bills.
September meter readings were estimated due to lack of staff to read the meters. This was noted on each bill and notated further if the meter reading had not been estimated. The billing software averaged customer bills based on usage from 8/1/23 through 8/30/24 to get the September 2024 reading.
When the meters were physically read in October, hundreds of readings went backwards (from too high of an estimation) and hundreds were estimated too low, resulting in a “catch up” bill for water used the last two months during drought-like conditions.
Our office staff has worked days, nights, and weekends making necessary corrections for those that were estimated too low; however, it was physically impossible to catch all of the low estimate “catch ups.”
If you have received a higher bill this month, you may have received a bill lower than expected last month (a low estimate) which has now “caught up.” If you watered your lawn/garden, added any water to your pool, etc. since August, your (estimated) September bill did not reflect this usage and it has registered this month instead.
If you have looked at your previous bill(s) and do not think this could be the issue, you can check the meter reading on your bill and compare it to the reading on your meter. If your reading is less than what is shown on your bill, your meter was truly misread in October. Give us a call and we will gladly reread it and credit your account for the mistake.
Please bear with us as we try to accommodate the phone calls and reread requests. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
